Music Inspirations

Music is my first love, and as such, it is a huge inspiration for my writing and stories. Each world/story I have created has a playlist that I created on Spotify, and this page is where I will share those playlists. I like to think of it as a way for you to see what kind of feeling/tone I’m going for in regards to a story, and hopefully, it adds a bit more understanding/connection to the stories I share.

This page will be constantly updated as I create playlists and add songs, and to help keep things straight it will be alphabetized by playlist title. I will not write about every single song, but please feel free to comment if there is a song you’re curious about and I will do my best to answer!

Isra Alta

  • Because of Isra’s traumatic backstory, a lot of the songs in this playlist are more somber and dramatic. A lot of the songs are about what Isra is, how she sees herself, and how her past has defined her.
  • Songs like “Defying Gravity” from Wicked and “Angel With a Shotgun” by The Cab were put in because of her race; literally a flying angel. The song “Fly Like an Eagle” by Seal also nods to her race, but it also represents her desire to do good in the world and help make it a better place.
  • If I had to choose a theme song for Isra, it would be “Tell Your Heart to Beat Again” by Danny Gokey. When Isra meets her new friends (my DnD group) she slowly starts to heal, and this song represents her being able to finally put Tylanys’ death behind her and begin to move on.
  • The song “Our Farewell” by Within Temptation is one of my favorites on this playlist because it punches me in the gut. Basically, it’s a duet for both Tylanys and Isra, when Tylanys dies; Isra with the verses and Tylanys with the chorus.
  • To help balance the playlist, I added a few more upbeat songs, such “This Little Girl” by Cady Groves. The song itself is about a cheating boyfriend, but I can see it working with Isra’s hatred towards Brem. His actions drove Isra to murder over a hundred people, because “every girl is capable of murder, ’cause you hurt her.”
